Hamburg Princess Jada Angels presents:
The Love Parade Kiki Ball
The dance style of voguing emerged in the 1970s in the ballroom scene of New York’s black and LatinX LGBTQ+ community. Marginalized by a white, heterosexual society, the community came together in their various families of choice, the “Houses”, at so-called balls to dance with and against each other, to perform, to imitate the glamorous life from fashion magazines (VOGUE as the eponym of Voguing) and to celebrate themselves. Ballroom culture means, especially for discriminated body identities, a way to (re)gain a sense of power, self-determination and beauty for one’s own identity in a safe environment.
